Striking a Child with an Open Hand on the Buttocks

Spanking is a form of discipline that parents may or may not agree with. Parents usually do not admit that they spank their children. Is it because they know that it is a bad act of discipline? Parents who do admit to spanking of their child say it is to show the child who is boss in the house. As for others, spanking is wrong because these parents think there can be a future problems from the effect of spanking. Spanking children can lead to emotional, mental and even physical problem as they grow up because the later effects of spanking and abuse caused by the disciplinary action of spanking. While I am against spanking a child, I understand that spanking a child can discipline him/her. Parents should restrict the use of spanking, spanking as a form of disciple can lead to child abuse. Straus tries to inform people how spankin g can cause a violent society because the world’s society brings up children violently through the use of corporal punishment. Straus stated, â€Å"I found that 44% said that, in half or more of the times they used corporal punishment, it was because they had â€Å"lost it† and 54% said that spanking was the wrong thing to have done in half or more of the instances.† Which means that because they just were stress or just mad, they would take it out on their kids to relieve the emotion. As a result of spanking, some parents say that spanking is just a strike on the buttocks, unlike some parents then progress to child abuse. Spanking can go out of hand sometimes, which then spanking is viewed as child abuse. Parents let their emotions control their actions, which then initiates the parent taking their anger out on their kid. Emphasizing the initial act of spanking, it can start with a simple spank but as spanking progresses the disciple of spanking begins to increase as being the main disciplinary action.
